2008 Calendar of Events

The Indiana County Democratic Committee is pleased to announce the following upcoming events:

• Now through Election Day -- get out the vote efforts at Headquarters
• Oct 29 7PM: Rally with Governor Rendell, IUP's Eberly Hall
• Nov 1 8:30AM: GOTV launch meeting at the Courthouse Annex
• Nov 3: All day, hang door hangars around IUP and town
• Nov 4: Presidential Election Day with Celebration at The Coney!

Becoming a Democratic Committee Man/Woman

Each of the 69 precincts in Indiana County has a Committee Man & Woman position.  The positions are four year terms coinciding with the election of the governor.  Candidates were elected in the spring primary by petitioning to have their names on the ballot or through write-in.  The remaining open positions are now filled through appointment by the chair.  If you are interested in serving a position open in your precinct, contact Tammie Shetler.

The committeeperson is an important link between the Democratic Party, the candidates, and their community.  You are the “grass roots” - distributing resources on candidates and issues, encouraging voter turnout, and ensuring a reliable election process.  Democrats have the registration edge in Indiana but are less likely than Republicans to vote.  If Committee people – and us as their neighbors – get the infrequent Democratic voters out, WE WIN!   The Democratic National Committee projects that the 2004 elections would have been won with 5 more voters per precinct.  Let's make it happen!
