Patricia A. Evanko for Indiana County Commissioner

Patricia A. Evanko of Blairsville announced today that she will seek the Democratic nomination for Indiana County Commissioner in the May primary election.


She has held that position for the past five months when she was appointed by President Judge William Martin in September following the untimely death of Bernie Smith. She was unanimously endorsed by the Indiana County Democratic Committee for the post.

Evanko said she is well prepared for the office of commissioner, having spent over 18 years in public service, 15 in the Indiana County Courthouse as first deputy treasurer and the past three years as county auditor.

She also served four years on Blairsville Borough Council, two of those years as president.

Evanko has also been a Democratic committeewoman in Blairsville Borough's Second Ward for the past 16 years.

She said she believes a good commissioner should have a broad understanding of government at all levels and that her experience enables her to practice good fiscal oversight and be sympathetic to constituents at all levels.

Evanko said she continues to support and work cooperatively with her fellow commissioners, other government leaders, the private and public sector and strongly supports emergency services and the local fire departments.

If elected, Evanko said she "will work very hard to promote economic growth, support existing business and industry" while doing everything she can to assist in attracting new paying jobs to Indiana County. She said she will also work with other officials to help build the county's infrastructure and continue improving the highway system.


Evanko stated she would like the opportunity to continue serving the residents of Indiana County as their county commissioner.


She and her husband Ron live in Blairsville. They have three daughters and two grandchildren.
